She
pulls on her helmet, and picks up her bat.
She
walks to the plate,
“Gonna
hit it, and that’s that.”
The
crowd starts to yell, the game’s on the line,
The
last inning, runner on third, and the score’s nine to nine.
Dad
yells “Go get it”, and Mom wrings her hands.
The
Coach hollers, “You can do it”,
but
alone there she stands.
Heroes
are made in moments like this, but she’s just a young girl.
What
if she should miss?
Years
after this game and she’s little no more,
Will
she remember the outcome or even the score?
No,
she’ll have forgotten if she was out, or if her hit won the game.
She
will only look back on her friends, not the fame.
So
cheer this girl on so alone with her fate
and
help her remember with fondness
this
stand at the plate.
Spend
your time wisely together and help in her quest
to be
a hitter with confidence and always give it her best.
And
when this game is over, this girl should stand tall,
For
you’ve helped her prepare to give it her all!
